Metallography by definition is the study of the structures of Metals and Alloys. This is commonly performed with the aid of microscopy. Examination of etched structures of metals and alloys at a micro level provides information on the crystalline grain structures, distribution of structural phases and impurities (metallic and non-metallic) that exists within a given sample. The post-processing of metallographic findings gives valuable insight on physical properties and thermal treatment regimes.

Here at Donhad samples are extracted with the aid of a metallurgical cut-off saw, upon completion samples undergo grinding and polishing until a surface finish of 1 micron is attained, chemical reagents are then mixed up to etch the sample followed by microstructural examination under a microscope at 250X and 500X magnification.
