Tensile Testing


A tensile test, also known as tension test, is probably the most fundamental type of mechanical test that can be performed on a material. Properties that are directly measured via a tensile test are ultimate tensile strength, maximum elongation and reduction in area. From these measurements the following properties can also be determined: Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, yield strength and toughness.

Donhad is accredited by NATA to perform tensile testing to AS1391, ASTM E8M and ISO 6892-1. Tensile testing is conducted using a 600kN Tinius Olsen Super 120 “L” universal tester with additional Horizon controlled software to ensure accuracy of measurement, the machine also has the availability of a video extensometer to enable precise, non-contact measurement of specimen strain for very brittle materials. All Super “L” systems are guaranteed to meet ASTM, ISO, and other national and international specifications for accuracy. Accuracy is within +/-0.5% of applied force from 0.2% to 100% of the frame capacity.
