Hardness Testing

Hardness is defined as the resistance of a material to permanent indentation, deformation or penetration. Hardness testing is often performed via Rockwell, Vickers or Brinell hardness testers. Measurements obtained from hardness testing are empirical in nature, providing an insight on the comparative hardness of materials rather than on the properties of the material.

Donhad utilizes the Vickers, Rockwell and Brinell hardness testers when hardness measurements are required. Depending on the scope of the test piece a suitable hardness tester will be selected to perform the tests. The hardness testers are calibrated weekly to ensure the integrity of the results obtained, all three hardness testers operate with regards to their respective standards (AS1817.1-2003, AS1815.1-2007, and AS1816.1-2007) such that identical procedures are replicated for any given test piece.
